Thomas Monroe dedicates his practice to complex civil litigation, trust and estate administration and trust and estate litigation. He has appeared as lead trial counsel in numerous jury and bench trials before the New Jersey Superior Court. Thomas has also appeared before the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, the United States Bankruptcy Court, the United States District Court, Southern District of New York (pro hac vice) and the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York (pro hac vice).
Thomas has provided counsel and litigated matters for some of the nation’s largest corporations and financial institutions. Additionally, he has represented small businesses, family businesses and individuals.
In the complex civil litigation context, Thomas frequently represents major companies and financial institutions in matters involving commercial contracts, creditor-debtor disputes, commercial paper, negotiable instruments, torts and other disputes governed by the Uniform Commercial Code.
In addition to his litigation practice, Thomas has extensive experience in Trust and Estate Administration. In this area, he provides counsel to private banking and trust departments related to their roles, duties and responsibilities as corporate trustees under New Jersey law. He also has experience with the proper administration of special needs trusts and charitable trusts. Advice is also provided to individual trustees, conservators, administrators, executors and beneficiaries.
Thomas served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps from 1988 through 1992. He was a non-commissioned officer attaining the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for professional achievement.
Upon being honorably discharged, Thomas attended Seton Hall University. While enrolled in college and law school, he helped run a small family business and was also employed as a law clerk. Upon graduating from Seton Hall University School of Law, Thomas served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Mark A. Sullivan, Jr., J.S.C. (ret.) in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
Upon completion of his clerkship, Thomas was employed by a prominent New Jersey law firm, where he focused on civil litigation. He joined Meyner and Landis LLP in 2003.
